Tegallalang Rice Terrace is a place where you can enjoy rice terrace view which you never seen in city. You can enjoy your time by having meal while see the wonderful view of rice terrace. In Tegallalang Rice Terrace, you can see the farmers produce their rice. Visitors can see the process of seeding, planting, maintenance, including the irrigation, until finally they harvest.
The view of rice terrace is not always the same. Since there are 5 process of producing, you will have different view. It depends on the time you visit there. However it always looks nice in every process. Never visit in the afternoon especially midday, unless you will feel maximal heat there. It is better to visit in the morning time or in the late afternoon.
Location of Tegallalang Rice Terrace
Tegallalang Rice Terrace is located in Ceking Village, Tegallalang Sub-district, Gianyar District, Bali Island. Because the position is in Ceking Village, some people called it as Ceking Rice Terrace. It will always be wonderful place regardless there are visitors or not.
It is located in the north side of Ubud. If you are in main art market, just go ahead to east until you find large statue. You will reach in intersection. And then, go ahead into the north. It is almost 10 km away from Ubud and needs around 20 – 30 minutes.
For reaching Tegallalang Rice Terrace, you can rent driver or motorcycle which is cost 50,000.00 IDR per day. There is no huge parking lot. However, there is someone who manages the parking lot. So that, it is pretty crowded but manage well. There is no entrance ticket in this area. You just need to pay 1,000 IDR for parking service each vehicle.
Discovering the History of Tegallalang Rice Terrace
Tegallalang Rice Terrace is well known as wonderful view of rice paddies. Also, the unique traditional irrigation system called the subak. The background is based on the history. Rsi Markandeya is holy man in the eighth century. He is the founder of irrigation system. It is one of the most beautiful rice terrace which next to Ubud. Another place is in Pejeng Village and Campuhan Village.

In Tegalalang Rice Terrace gives you a chance to take nice picture with stunning scenes. There is a farmer who offers you to taste coconut drink and also to buy his woven hats. This woven hats is his handcraft which made of coconut leaves. Definitely, it is not free but it is small fees.
In Tegallalang, there is small village. It is Pakudui. In this village, you can see many craftsmen create their best handicrafts. You can find various ornamental woodwork and sculptures. This talent of craftsmen seems like derive from their ancestors.
Wood is always being common media for them to express their talent. These arts look natural in wood. During your tour in this village, you will notice Garuda. Garuda is one mythical figure in Bali. It always looks stunning compare to others carvings mythical.
