The Tamblingan area is the last of the four lakes. This lake is located on the northern slope of Mount Lesung, Munduk Village area, District Banjar, Buleleng Regency that has a surface area of 1.5 km² with a depth of about 90 meters.

Because of the adjacent location, Buyan and Tamblingan are often referred as the Twin Lake. If you come from the direction of Denpasar to Bedugul until Munduk, then you will first pass Beratan Lake and then Buyan Lake which newest and the last is Tamblingan Lake.

History at Lake of Tamblingan

Like the names of other places, the name Tamblingan also has meaning. Tamblingan comes from the words Tamba and Elingang. Tamba in Balinese means medicine, while Elingang means Spiritual ability. So, the lake that called Tamblingan has the meaning of Spiritual Lake for treatment.

The name of Tamblingan legend dates from the 10th to 14th centuries. At that time around the lake there were 4 villages such as Gobleg, Munduk, Gesing and Umejero. The four villages were asked to maintain the sanctity of Tamblingan Lake. But one day the four villages were infected with an outbreak of a contagious disease.

Then a sainted priest came to the lake to fetch water. On the lake he prayed and thanks. By his spiritual abilities, the water was made into medicine and healed the people of the epidemic plague that attacked them.

Since the incident at that time the population of the 4 villages began to build many temples around Tamblingan Lake. Noted there are 11 temples around Tamblingan today. The existence of temples in Tamblingan lake adds to the exoticism of the lake which has a nice landscape and gives a different aura every time here.
